So Apple finally took covers off the new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini at their ‘Hi, Speed’ event today. The all-new A14 Bionic chip, 5G capabilities, improved cameras, and more are featured on the new iPhones! Let’s try them out.
iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12
So, yeah, this year, Apple finally delivered the dream iPhone SE sized iPhone-12 Mini. It comes with all the same characteristics as the normal iPhone 12, just in a smaller package, with OLED display, 5G capability, A14 Bionic.
Ceramic Shield Display
An all-new Ceramic Shield monitor comes with both the new 6.1-inch and 5.4-inch (12 Mini) iPhones. Apple says that they have collaborated closely with Corning (Gorilla glass manufacturers) to create this new display that provides up to 4 times more security than standard Gorilla glass. And yes (finally), all iPhones, including iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini, have an OLED screen or Super Retina XDR in Apple’s language.
The new iPhones still retain the (good?) old notch at the top, which houses an improved FaceID sensor. Wireless charging support for iPhone 12 and 12 Mini and the new MagSafe for iPhone by Apple, which will automatically place the new iPhones correctly on wireless chargers.
A14 Bionic and 5G
Under the hood, the all-new A14 Bionic chip that made its debut on Apple’s new iPad Air last month is powering this year’s iPhone 12 series. A14 Bionic, with a four-core GPU, Hexa-core CPU, and a mammoth 16-core Neural Engine, is the world’s first 5 nm process technology chip. It’s presumably the world’s fastest mobile processor, boasting up to 11 Trillion Operations per second (TOPs). It supports 5G — with up to 3.5Gbps download speeds.
Some of my friends were wondering why they are even launching a 5G version in India when 5G is already 2-3 years from commercial launch in India when it comes to the 5G version in India. I only had one reason for this, 5 G has an integrated modem within the A14 Bionic (not like Snapdragon 865 / Plus which has a separate 5G modem) and it would have been difficult for Apple to create a 4G-only version of this chip (and ship two different versions of the same device), so they just went ahead and released the 5G version in India.
Two upgraded cameras are used on the all-new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini. A 12MP (f/1.6) with a huge 1.7μ image sensor size is the primary ‘wide’ sensor on the iPhone 12 (and Mini). All three cameras on your iPhone (including the front) now support Night Mode. In their keynote, Apple spoke a lot about computer photography, which we’ll have to test for ourselves once we get hands-on with the device.
A new LiDAR sensor and an all-new telephoto lens are included in the iPhone 12 Pro. Dual-OIS sapphire lens cover, Deep Fusion, and a new Apple ProRAW image format are enabled on both the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini, enabling you to click and edit RAW images using the native Photos app. Now, 10-Bit Dolby Vision videos can be captured by cameras.
Apple has removed the charging adapter and EarPods from the iPhone 12 package, as planned. Apple claims the carbon emissions will be significantly reduced, almost equivalent to the elimination of 450,000 vehicles from our world. When you purchase these costly phones, you’ll have to purchase a new set of earphones and a charging adapter.
iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 Pricing
iPhone 12 has been priced hilariously in India, just as in the past few years.
