Airtel, Jio and Vodafone Idea to Help Govt in COVID-19 Contact Tracing

As the government has again extended the lockout time to May 17, 2020. The center also takes other protective steps to neutralize the COVID-19 threat to curb the spread of the virus. As mentioned by ET Telecom, Center could soon be making calls to nearly 900 million people to check if they have symptoms of the virus. The government will work with telco giants such as Vodafone Idea, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio to allow calls to their subscribers and ensure large-scale communication monitoring via the Aarogya Setu App.

Government To Carry Out Interactive Voice Response (IVRS) Program

The Aarogya Setu App will be extended by the center to approximately 550 million feature phone users. It will also develop an Integrated Voice Response System (IVRS), which will be fluent in all the Indian languages. The IVRS will connect with users and check all of Covid-19’s signs, which will immediately alert local health authorities to swift action. The government is also expected to do a pan-India rollout of the IVRS to ensure users update their health status and cover the entire population.

75,000 Calls Have Been Made So far

Aarogya Setu app already assists the government in battling back the deadly virus. With the input from the App, Ayushman Bharat’s health officials reach out to individuals who have expressed their health conditions. Nearly 75,000 users made the calls. Also Aarogya Setu app is being tested on Jio Phones to help the government reach approximately 150 million users.

Aarogya Setu Application is compulsory for public employees

The Aarogya Setu Application has already been made mandatory for government employees. The officials are suggested to move out of their homes and go to work if the status indicates low risk or no risk then only. If the status does indicate moderate risk or high risk, however, they should stay back at home. The government has also recommended that the App must be promoted to access migrant workers who are being transferred to their respective states. Also, the government is expected to make the Software compulsory for citizens living in red and orange areas.
