6nm Dimensity 1100, 1200 Flagship 5G Smartphone chipsets announced by MediaTek

Not one but two Dimensity 5G chipsets were finally announced by MediaTek Today. These are the successors to the Dimensity 1000+ chipset of the past year. They feature the revised ARM Cortex-A78 core and are built on the 6nm process of the newer TSMC. Two new chipsets were announced by MediaTek is Dimensity 1100 and Dimensity 1200 5G. Compared to 7nm on Dimensity 1000+, these smartphone chipsets are built on the TSMC’s 6nm. You also get the clock speed boosted up to 3 GHz on the Dimension 1200. MediaTek says the chipsets have updated capabilities for AI, camera, connectivity, and GPU.

Important Features of Dimensity 1100, 1200 5G chipsets

Connectivity

Both chipsets have common features such as AI computing MediaTek APU 3.0 (APU on 1200 chipset has 10 percent more performance), gaming tech support for MediaTek HyperEngine 3.0, 5G call and data competition, multi-touch boost, ray tracing in games and AR apps, and super power savings from hotspot.

There is an integrated 5G modem inside both the Dimensity 1100 and 1200. They also have the company’s unique UltraSave technology to address the enormous 5G power constraints. In addition, the chipsets support SA/NSA 5G(sub-6GHz, 5G+5G Dual-SIM), frequency division duplex (FDD) and time division duplex (TDD) 2CC carrier aggregation, dynamic spectrum sharing duplex (TDD) (DSS).

It should be noted that the Dimensity 1200 chipset has received TÜV Rheinland certification covering 72 real-world scenarios for its 5G performance.
The latest Wi-Fi 6, GNSS L1+L5, Bluetooth 5.2, 2, and Bluetooth 5.2 are other connectivity features.

Camera

MediaTek Dimension 1200 supports a single camera of up to 200MP. With 4K HDR video capture assistance, you also get the five-core HDR-ISP(Image Signal Processor). On the other hand, the Dimension 1100 only has support for up to 108 MP for a single camera. Both chipsets have common features, such as dual camera support for 32MP + 16MP. This means that you get AI-Panorama Night Shot, Multi-Person Bokeh, noise reduction, HDR camera functionality, coupled with enhanced AI performance.

Display, Audio & Video playback support

Dimensions 1100 and 1200 support up to 90 Hz refresh rate for QHD display. The D1200, however, has up to 168Hz for FHD+, while the D1100 is limited to a 144Hz refresh rate. They support HDR10+, hardware-accelerated AV1 coding, for video playback. For Audio, you get true wireless stereo audio with ultra-low latency, LC3 encoding for high-quality audio, lower latency streaming for TWS earbuds (power-efficiency).

MediaTek says that by the end of Q1 2021, OEMs such as Xiaomi, Vivo, OPPO and realm, have shown support for including the new chipsets in their devices.
